油气储层研究中心” 30th Weekly  Seminar

Topic; Diagenesis of carbonates Rocks

Name; Muhammad Kashif

Date; 2016年4月10日

I  am Muhammad kashif, from Pakistan and I am Ph.D student at China university of  Petroleum, Huangdao, Qingdao, East China, the topic of my presentation is  Diagenesis of Carbonates rocks, in this topic I do special emphasis on  diagenetic processes especially dissolution effect on carbonates  rocks.

Diagenesis  is basically a  process that brings changes in sediments during burial and lithification. The  physical and chemical changes that alter the characteristics of sediment after  deposition are referred to as diagenesis (Milliken 2003). 1st I  briefly discuss about carbonates rocks, their types, Chemistry, textures, their  mineralogy and classifications, then discuss about the different diagenetic  process, their formation mechanism and explain with suitable examples and  diagrams from outcrop as well as thin  section studies, I also discuss their effect on the reservoir quality and as  well as their advantages and disadvantage for reservoir  rock.

There  are three major diagenetic process which are 1st- Physical Diagenesis  that includes Compaction, 2nd Chemical Diagenesis that includes  Cementation, Authigenesis, Recrystallization, Inversion, Replacement and  Dissolutions, and 3rd Biological Diagenesis that  includes Bioturbation. Presentation also emphasis on water resources for  dissolutions, diagenetic problems, diagenetic environment, major effect of  diagenesis, diagenesis effect on Reservoir quality, and at the last I discuss  the methodology and experimental work for Reservoir evaluation such as, thin  section study, logging data, Bore hole images, Nuclear and magnetic resonance  (NMR), SEM, X. Ray diffraction, Cathodo luminescence (CL), Chemical stable  Isotopes and X. Ray Computed Tomography (CT).
